Update! (and lack of)
Posted by Sandman on Sunday, September 22nd 2007
Category: Site News

Its been a long while since I've had a chance to update this site (over 2 years!). I do plan on revamping and updating the site sometime in the next year or so. I know there are far better SW sites out there and my goal isn't to compete with them. This is just a little fan site dedicated to something that's touched and been part of my life ever since that faithful summer in 1977, when as a 6 year old I was captivated by that galaxy far, far away.

Oh my word!

I just came back from seeing the midnight showing of Episode 3. This time around I think my jaw is still on the theater floor. This has got to be the best SW film since Empire Strikes Back. This movie ties the previous 2 sequels almost seemlessly with the original trilogy. It makes you see that Vader is truly a tragic figure. It will change the way you view the original trilogy. Most of the flaws from the 2 prequels are gone. This is what TPM and AotC was building up to, and it doesn't disappoint. It most certainly will take more than one viewing to absorb everything that goes on in this movie (and with luck, I'll be seeing it again this afternoon).

If you're one of those 20-something (or 30-something or 40-something) who felt that the previous 2 movies somehow 'raped your childhood memories', do yourselves a favour and go see Revenge of the Sith. I will dare to say that it's even darker than Empire, and probably the most emotional and tragic movies of them all. And from a fanboy perspective, the final lightsaber dual is the most intense lightsaber fight of all 6 movies. Just don't sit there, go see it now! :)

I'll edit this into a more comprehensive review when I've managed to catch some sleep and hopefully see the movie a 2nd time.

On a side note, some of you may have notices that the Episode 3 section in the left menu now actually goes somewhere. I've finally managed to put up a slew of pictures. Soon I'll be adding the trailers, a toy section and maybe a few other tidbits. But until then, enjoy!

Episode 3 Teaser Trailer
Posted by Sandman on Friday, November 5 2004
Category: Episode3

The Episode 3 teaser trailer has been released to members of Hyperspace (starwars.com's pay service) and AOL users yesterday. The trailer was also shown on MTV's TRL and Access Hollywood last night, and it's also attached to most prints of The Incredibles. It's also rumoured that you can find it on the net.

I've seen this trailer. I've watched it half a dozen times. This looks to be the best movie of the prequels. Much darker and more action. Only 194 days to go!

Disk 2: In Dex's Kitchen, highlight Main Menu and go left. This should highlite a book next to Dex.

If you know of any other easter eggs, let me know!

Still in awe
Posted by Sandman on Thursday, May 23 2002

I've seen Attack of the Clones 3 times so far. Midnight showing on Wednesday, noon showing on Thursday and on Saturday night. I'm still in as much awe of the movie as I was after the midnight showing. You catch so much more on subsequent showings (Millenium Falcon on Naboo, Qui-Gon shouting "Anakin No!", etc...).

I'm probably going to catch it again in 2 weeks (some friends haven't seen it, wanted me to go with them, couldn't say no :P ).

What's the point to my rant? This fanboy just wanted to say that AotC gets better with each viewing.

On a side note: Am I the only one that thought there wasn't enough Jar Jar? Though I'm not a Jar Jar hater, I didn't particularly like him either in Phantom Menace. I thought he was tolerable most times. I felt that his screentime was too short in AotC though. Probably because I expected more from a character that had a semi-important role in the first prequel, and in AotC he was reduced to a bit character. Oh well....

Oh...My...Gawd

Just came back from the midnight showing of AOTC, and my jaw is still dragging along the ground. I have so many thoughts about the movie that it's hard to write them down in a logical, comprehensible manner.

The story: In a way, unlike any of the previous SW movies, but so very much SW. I don't want to spoil it for those who haven't seen it, so I won't give too many details. It has detective movie elements, amazing action sequences, and probably the best dialog since ESB. It's hard to say more without giving any details that might spoil it for some. Let's just say we get to see many Jedis in action, at their prime, and we finally get to see why Yoda is THE Jedi Master. The only flaw I noticed was that the love story seemed a bit rushed, but otherwise simply amazing.

The acting: No Jake Lloyd! :P Scenes that made the acting look wooden in the trailers are actually the opposite when watched in the context of the movie. The actors make their characters believable.

The Special F/X: It wouldn't be a SW movie, nor a review, if I didn't talk about the Special F/X. Again, ILM/Lucas outdid themselves. Fully CGI characters, including Yoda, are totally believable and fit right into the scenes. The backgrounds, the ships, the clones... All looked realy, almost eerily so.

The soundtrack: This is probably the only weak point in the movie. There is nothing new that jumps out at you music wise. The soundtrack is not bad by any means. It's classic John Williams. The score fits well with the scenes. Maybe I just expected some of the new material to grab me.

Overall, I would give this movie a 9.8 out of 10. Out of the other 4 movies, I would place this one just a hair below Empire Strikes Back (my alltime favorite SW movie).

I'll be catching the movie again tomorrow, and a 3rd time this weekend. After these viewings I'll be in a better position to give a more comprehensible, detailed personal review of the movie...

But for now, I'm off to dream of a galaxy far, far away.

2+ Days and The Net
Posted by Sandman on Monday, May 13 2002
Category: Episode2

Just a little over 2 days until I'm sitting in a theater at 12:01, watching the Lucasfilm logo shimmer on the screen. I can't wait! It's been a long wait since Episode 1. And from what I've read of Attack Of The Clones, this movie is going to rock, comparable to Empire Strikes Back (my favorite SW movie so far).

Since last week I've been getting quite a few emails asking if I know where you can download Episode 2. Someone (or a few individuals) managed to tape the movie at an advance screening and have released it on the Internet. A few of you have asked me where they could find the movie.

Though I know where you could probably find the movie, I'm not gonna say a word about it. Why would you want to ruin the Star Wars experience by watching a sub-standard, fuzzy, grainy, even-worse-than-VHS version of the movie? Star Wars was meant to be watched on the big screen, with big sound. Half the magic is seeing it on the silver screen. Even watchng the DVD version of the Phantom Menace doesn't even come close to the experience of watching it in a theater. So save your bandwidth and go see it on the big screen. SO please, don't e-mail me asking where you can download the movie from, or if I have a copy I could share with you. Cuz I'm not even gonna bother replying.

N*Synch Not In Episode 2
Posted by Sandman on Thursday, January 10 2002
Category: Episode2

Word has been leaking out that Lucas will be cutting out N*Synch from SWE2:Attack Of The Clones. Word came from one of the band members during a radio interview. The following snippit is from SciFi Wire.

Extremely negative reaction has prompted George Lucas to drop a cameo appearance by N'Sync in his upcoming Star Wars: Episode II--Attack of the Clones, group member Joey Fatone reportedly told a Florida radio show. Fatone told the Carson Radio Show on 93.3 FM, "I'm going to make it officially known they dropped it because people made a big deal about it," according to reports on the Ananova and Empire Online Web sites. "We're not going to be in it, and I'm not going to comment on it anymore."

I feel a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of people issued sighs of relief. (Though part of me wonders if this was just a publicity stunt of some kind).

NSync In Episode 2
Posted by Sandman on Thursday, January 3 2002
Category: Episode2

As most of you have probably heard, it's been reported by MTV that the boyband (Not So) NSynch are going to have a cameo on Episode 2 (Supposedly this has been confirmed by Lucasfilm, but no such statement appears on the Star Wars site currently).

Personally, I don't care. The band will appear in a scene with 300 other people, in the background probably wearing Jedi hoods. And they get killed within a few seconds. Even die-hard NSynch fans (seek help) will have a very tough time spotting out their idols (seek help). Maybe once the DVD comes out, millions of prebucent girls will sit at home, go frame by frame and zoom into the picture hoping to catch a very quick glimpse at those dreamy (gag me with a forklift) NSynch members.

Episode 1 had tons of cameos, and no one complained. Tell me, who can spot Mark Hamill's son in Episode 1? How many non-fanatic people can spot McCallum and Ben Burtt? So NSynch is going to be in Episode2. They wont even have a speaking role. Their being in the movie instead of an unknown extra will not detract from the movie in either way. Quite the opposite. This will probably increase ticket sales and it may help it surpass Titanic (gag me with a bigger forklift) when millions of screaming teenagers go to the movie in the hopes to see these boy hunks (gag me with sword).

You check out other sites and hear fans calling Lucas a traitor, etc.... You know what? It wasn't even Lucas' idea. NSynch asked producer McCallum if they could be in the movie, and he gave them these bit parts. Lucas did not even want to advertise the fact that they were in the movie. Somehow the information leaked out. It took a few days for Lucasfilm to confirm these rumours.

So for those of you who are in an uproar about this, get your mother's panties out of a bunch (and make sure you wash them before giving them back to her) and step back for a second. You'll see that being upset about this is utterly ridiculous. This is really no big deal at all.

Episode 2 Title Revealed
Posted by Sandman on Monday, August 6 2001
Category: Episode2

The official title for Star Wars: Episode 2 has been released. And the title is..................

Star Wars Episode 2: Attack of the Clones

No folks, I'm not kidding. This is the official title as selected by Mr.Lucas himself. I'm a bit blaze on the title. I understand what Lucas is trying to do. But this is supposed to be the darker of the 3 prequels, like ESB was in the original trilogy. Empire Strikes Back is a gripping, 'hard' title. Attack of the Clones seems like a cheezy 50's B movie. And I'm sure that is totally Lucas' point.

You can read the official announcement here.
